A leading conservation group says sturgeon species such as the beluga are being pushed to the brink of extinction by overfishing and environmental degradation.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature says a complete ban on fishing in the Caspian Sea and elsewhere may be the only way to save the ancient species prized for its eggs, known as caviar.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control says the weakfish has experienced a major decline in recent years.
The recreational limit was reduced from six to one fish per person, per day, while the commercial limit is now 100 pounds per vessel, per trip.

Yesterday the UN body charged with protecting the world's endangered species, The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) strongly rejected an American call to ban the commercial fishing of the Blue Fin Tuna, which they claim is in serious decline, at a Doha Conference.
Most countries at the conference argued it should be managed by the fising nations involved in this trade and stocks are sustainable with the right managment.
